The Best Ways to Remove Stickers from Your Auto Glass
Whether you've just rolled off the lot in your new car or you're driving around town in the same ride, chances are good that you've struggled to remove a window sticker at some point.
Try as you might, that adhesive will be determined to hang onto your auto glass! The good news is we've put together a step-by-step guide that will make this process easy for you.
All you need to get started is the following:
- Dish soap and warm water
- Liquid Fabric Softener
- Windex
- Rubbing Alcohol
- A bucket and some rags
- Paper towels
- Plastic scraper
Step 1. Begin to Peel the Sticker Off
Starting from a corner, peel the window sticker off diagonally. Doing this ensures that the sticker will come off in one piece. If it tears, just use your plastic scraper to raise a corner and start peeling again.
Step 2. Use Soapy Water to Soak the Adhesive
Grab your bucket and fill it with dish soap and warm water. Now use a rag to soak the adhesive that remains on your auto glass. After the adhesive is soaked, use the plastic scraper or the rag to remove as much as possible.
At this point, all of the sticker and adhesive may have been effectively removed! If not, keep reading!
Step 3. Mix Fabric Softener with Hot Water
Empty the bucket you used initially and now fill it with hot water and liquid fabric softener. Wet a rag and start scrubbing the area with the mixture.
Step 4. Fall Back on Windex
If the fabric softener mix still didn't do the trick, bring out good, old, reliable Windex and wipe dry with a paper towel.
Step 5. Use a Straight Razor Blade
If you've made it to this point and nothing has managed to remove the adhesive, it's time to try a straight razor blade. You can find the proper razor type at an auto shop or hardware store. When using a razor blade, just be careful not to damage the auto glass.
Step 6. Use Rubbing Alcohol
At this point, hopefully one of the above solutions will have worked. However, if you're really still struggling to remove the adhesive, try soaking it with rubbing alcohol and then rubbing it away with a paper towel.
Step 7. Rinse with Clean Water and Dry
Congratulations! You did it! The last thing you need to do is simply rinse your car with some clean water, dry it off, and polish it with some glass cleaner or quick detailing spray!
Windshield or auto stickers can be a great way to personalize your car, but let's face it: at some point they lose their original luster. When that time comes, we hope you'll find this to be a helpful step-by-step guide to get you through the process without damaging your auto glass. Need more tips about your auto glass?
